The Pokémon Trading Card Game is preparing for one of the biggest releases in its history.
To celebrate 30 years of Pokémon, the highly anticipated Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration expansion will officially launch worldwide on September 16, 2026. For the first time in Pokémon TCG history, an expansion will receive a simultaneous global release, giving collectors around the world the opportunity to start opening packs at the same time.
And this isn't just another Pokémon set. The 30th Celebration expansion is packed with nostalgia, brand-new artwork, special rarities, and collectible surprises designed to honor three decades of Pokémon history.
Every Card Is Foil
One of the biggest features of Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration is that every card in the expansion is foil.
Each booster pack contains five foil cards plus a foil Basic Energy card, creating a premium pack-opening experience unlike a standard Pokémon TCG expansion.
For collectors who love shiny cards, this set could quickly become one of the most exciting Pokémon releases of 2026.
30 Different Pikachu Cards to Collect
Pikachu is taking center stage for Pokémon's 30th anniversary.
There will be 30 different Pikachu rare cards, each featuring artwork from a different illustrator. Even better, every 30th Celebration booster pack includes one of these Pikachu cards.
That means collectors opening packs will always have a Pikachu waiting inside.
Each version features its own artwork and attacks, making completing the entire 30-card Pikachu collection a major challenge—and potentially one of the most popular collecting goals from the set.
Classic Pokémon Cards Return
Longtime Pokémon collectors will also get a serious dose of nostalgia.
Pokémon has confirmed that classic cards from previous generations will return as special reprints, including one of the most recognizable Pokémon cards ever created:
Base Set Charizard.
Other returning cards include Pikachu & Zekrom-GX from Sun & Moon—Team Up, connecting multiple generations of Pokémon TCG history in a single anniversary expansion.
These classic cards are expected to be especially exciting for collectors who remember opening Pokémon packs during earlier eras of the game.
Introducing Futuristic Rare Cards
Pokémon isn't only looking back at its history—the company is also introducing something completely new.
The 30th Celebration expansion introduces a brand-new rarity called Futuristic Rare.
Among the first Pokémon receiving the Futuristic Rare treatment are two legendary fan favorites:
Mew and Mewtwo.
The cards feature striking artwork from renowned Japanese artist YOSHIROTTEN, giving the cards a dramatically different visual style compared with traditional Pokémon TCG artwork.
For collectors hunting the biggest cards from the expansion, the Futuristic Rare Mew and Mewtwo could become two of the set's most sought-after pulls.
More Pokémon ex and Illustration Rares
The celebration extends well beyond Pikachu, Mew, Mewtwo, and Charizard.
Pokémon has already revealed several popular Pokémon appearing throughout the expansion, including:
Espeon
Umbreon
Lapras
Drifloon
Zorua
Lycanroc
Greninja ex
Sylveon ex
The expansion also features a distinctive day-and-night theme, particularly visible through Pokémon such as Espeon and Umbreon.
Expect Illustration Rares, Pokémon ex cards, classic reprints, and additional surprises as collectors begin opening the set.
Pokémon 30th Celebration Products
The celebration won't be limited to individual booster packs.
A large lineup of Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration products is planned throughout the remainder of 2026, including products such as:
Elite Trainer Boxes, Poster Collections, Tech Sticker Collections, Knock Out Collections, Pokémon ex Boxes, Booster Bundles, Mini Tins, Binder Collections, Figure Collections, and an Ultra-Premium Collection.
Some products launch alongside the expansion on September 16, while additional products are scheduled to arrive later in October and November.
Major retailers are already preparing for the release, with stores such as Best Buy promoting Pokémon's anniversary products and upcoming September 16 drops.
Why Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration Could Be Huge
Anniversary Pokémon sets have historically generated enormous attention among both longtime collectors and newer fans.
But 30th Celebration has several features that make it particularly unique:
Every card is foil.
Every booster pack contains one of 30 Pikachu cards.
Classic Pokémon cards are returning.
Futuristic Rare cards make their debut.
Mew and Mewtwo headline the new rarity.
And perhaps most importantly, this will be the first Pokémon TCG expansion released simultaneously around the world.
It combines nostalgia with new artwork and modern Pokémon TCG design in a set created specifically to celebrate three decades of the franchise.
